French musician and UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Goodwill Ambassador Jean Michel Jarre performed on Saturday (December 16th) night in Merzouga, Morocco. The concert aimed to draw attention to water shortages and desertification. The event was one of the highlights marking the end of the UN International Year of Deserts and Desertification and part of the 2005-2015 UN Water for Life Decade.
Some 15,000 people attended the event, which also featured the Modern Arab Orchestra of Casablanca, the Morocco Philharmonic Orchestra and a number of soloists. (La Liberte, www.wenn.com, UNESCO)
